Travelling today is easier and cheaper than ever before. However, it can still be intimidating to leave your comfort zone and fly halfway across the world. While it may be tempting to stay at home where you know all the local slang, and food is always familiar, here are 5 reasons why you should pack your bags and go work in another country.

1. Meet new people

Have you ever fantasized about casually dropping the names of your foreign friends in conversations? Now is your chance to make that happen!

80% of our trainees stay in touch with people that they met while working abroad. When you work abroad, you will get to meet other trainees from across the world who are also working in agriculture or horticulture. It is a great chance to meet people from different backgrounds, but who share the same interests as you!

You might also stay with a host family while you are overseas, and you will get to know your coworkers in your job. Having a local perspective is an excellent way to get an inside look at the culture and will leave you with a more enriching experience overall.

Working abroad is a fantastic way to expand your friend network and get to meet people from all over the world!

2. Get a global understanding of your field

Working abroad will mean getting practical experience in your field. You could learn new techniques or methods and bring them back to Canada and share your own perspective with your coworkers. It’s a great chance to be able to broaden your global understanding of your area of study while gaining practical experience.

Being able to work in another country is a valuable opportunity that will help you to expand your understanding of your area of work. Plus, who doesn’t want to hear stories about the time you helped birth cows in Norway, or got to work in an absolutely adorable guesthouse on the Irish coast?

3. Food!

One of the best parts of travelling is the food. Travelling is a fantastic opportunity to be able to experience a culture through your taste buds. There are so many amazing dishes to try, no matter where in the world you travel. Who knows? You could find your new favourite comfort food!

Living in a new place will give you direct access to authentic local treats and recipes. Depending on your placement, host families will cook for you, or you will prepare meals on your own. Either way, you will have a chance to try the local favourites and expand your food horizons.

4. Become super adaptable

Let’s be hones, not everything goes right when you travel. But travelling is a great chance to flex your problem-solving muscles and learn how to be flexible in any situation. And adaptability is a skill that will help you, no matter what you decide to do in the future.

Employers love to see overseas experience because they know that you can figure things out on your own and think on your feet. Not only that, but adapting to new cultures and surroundings has shown to make you a more creative person overall. By deciding to work abroad, you will be investing in your future.

Travelling with IRE Canada will also mean a 24/7 helpline, so we can help in any sticky situation. That means you can feel confident about working abroad!

You will have time off from work to travel around the country. There are many fun experiences to be had around the world. Not to mention, you will also have an opportunity to meet up with other trainees to do things together.

Some of the most thrilling stories we’ve heard include sky diving, rafting, and horse riding on the beach. The options are entirely up to you!
